During Times of Trial: Come unto Him.

Everyone faces trials in this world. Even if it is not being able to find the right outfit to wear to school the next day, or battling a tough illness. Our Heavenly Father cares about the smallest things. And of course the harder trials we have. If we turn to Him through our trials, we will be blessed. But we must remember, that answers/blessings come to us in the Lord's time. So we need to have patience and endure our trials.

Sometimes members of the Church wonder why a certain trial is happening to them. However, the Lord gives us trials so we can learn and grow. He never gives us anything we cannot handle. He is here for us to turn to. President Henry B. Eyring, says it much better than I ever could. Below is an excerpt from his talk from the previous conference titled, "Mountains to Climb":

"Now, I wish to encourage those who are in the midst of hard trials, who feel their faith may be fading under the onslaught of troubles. Trouble itself can be your way to strengthen and finally gain unshakable faith. Moroni, the son of Mormon in the Book of Mormon, told us how that blessing could come to pass. He teaches the simple and sweet truth that acting on even a twig of faith allows God to grow it:
“And now, I, Moroni, would speak somewhat concerning these things; I would show unto the world that faith is things which are hoped for and not seen; wherefore, dispute not because ye see not, for ye receive no witness until after the trial of your faith.
“For it was by faith that Christ showed himself unto our fathers, after he had risen from the dead; and he showed not himself unto them until after they had faith in him; wherefore, it must needs be that some had faith in him, for he showed himself not unto the world.
“But because of the faith of men he has shown himself unto the world, and glorified the name of the Father, and prepared a way that thereby others might be partakers of the heavenly gift, that they might hope for those things which they have not seen.
“Wherefore, ye may also have hope, and be partakers of the gift, if ye will but have faith."
It is never too late to strengthen the foundation of faith. There is always time. With faith in the Savior, you can repent and plead for forgiveness. There is someone you can forgive. There is someone you can thank. There is someone you can serve and lift. You can do it wherever you are and however alone and deserted you may feel."

I am grateful for the prophets and apostles that we have on this Earth and I hope that we heed to their words. And I know that we can overcome any trial with Christ by our side. And I say that in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

"How Men Are Saved."

Christ wants all of us to be saved. We have the Atonement to give us the ability to become perfect through Him. In 2 Nephi 25:23 it says, "For we labor diligently to write, to persuade our children, and also our brethren, to believe in Christ, and to be reconciled to God; for we know that it is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do." Isn't that a great promise? After all that we do, we will be saved. We are commanded in Matthew 5:48 to be perfect, but we know that it is not possible. That is why we have the Atonement so we can become clean again. And once we become clean, we can enter into the kingdom of our Father. Marion G. Romney, in October 1974 Conference, gives a rather long quotation, that after reading it, I must include the whole thing. So I will conclude with that: "The reward for understanding and implementing what I will read will be eternal life, the greatest of all the gifts of God. Addressing his brethren, he said:
“I know that ye have searched much, many of you, to know of things to come; wherefore I know that ye know that our flesh must waste away and die; nevertheless, in our bodies we shall see God.
“Yea, I know that ye know that in the body he shall show himself unto those at Jerusalem [he was talking, as I said, some nearly 600 years B.C.] from whence we came; for it is expedient that it should be among them; for it behooveth the great Creator that he suffereth himself to become subject unto man in the flesh, and die for all men, that all men might become subject unto him.
“For as death hath passed upon all men, to fulfil the merciful plan of the great Creator, there must needs be a power of resurrection, and the resurrection must needs come unto man by reason of the fall; and the fall came by reason of transgression; and because man became fallen they were cut off from the presence of the Lord.
“Wherefore, it [meaning the atonement which Christ was to make for man’s transgressions] must needs be an infinite atonement—save it should be an infinite atonement this corruption could not put on incorruption. Wherefore, the first judgment which came upon man must needs have remained to an endless duration. And if so, this flesh must have laid down to rot and to crumble to its mother earth, to rise no more.
“O the wisdom of God, his mercy and grace! For behold, if the flesh should rise no more our spirits must become subject to that angel who fell from before the presence of the Eternal God, and became the devil, to rise no more.
“And our spirits must have become like unto him, and we become devils, angels to a devil, to be shut out from the presence of our God, and to remain with the father of lies, in misery, like unto himself; …
“And because of the way of deliverance of our God, the Holy One of Israel, … death, … which is … temporal, shall deliver up its dead; which death is the grave.
“And … death … which is … spiritual … shall deliver up its dead; which spiritual death is hell; [that’s an interesting definition, to be shut off from the presence of God is literally hell] wherefore, death and hell must deliver up their dead, and hell must deliver up its captive spirits, and the grave must deliver up its captive bodies, and the bodies and the spirits of men will be restored one to the other; and it is by the power of the resurrection of the Holy One of Israel.
“O how great the plan of our God! For … the spirit and the body is restored to itself again, and all men become incorruptible, and immortal, and they are living souls, having a perfect knowledge like unto us in the flesh, save it be that our knowledge shall be perfect.
“Wherefore, we shall have a perfect knowledge of all our guilt, and our uncleanness, and our nakedness; and the righteous shall have a perfect knowledge of their enjoyment, and their righteousness, being clothed with purity, yea, even with the robe of righteousness.
“And it shall come to pass that when all men shall have passed from this first death unto life, insomuch as they have become immortal, they must appear before the judgment-seat of the Holy One of Israel; and then cometh the judgment, and then must they be judged according to the holy judgment of God.
“And assuredly, as the Lord liveth, … they who are righteous shall be righteous still, and they who are filthy shall be filthy still; … and their torment is as a lake of fire and brimstone, whose flame ascendeth up forever and ever and has no end.
“But, behold, the righteous, the saints of the Holy One of Israel, they who have believed in the Holy One of Israel, they who have endured the crosses of the world, and despised the shame of it, they shall inherit the kingdom of God, which was prepared for them from the foundation of the world, and their joy shall be full forever.
“O the greatness of the mercy of our God, the Holy One of Israel! For he delivereth his saints from that awful monster the devil, and death, and hell, and that lake of fire and brimstone, which is endless torment.
“O how great the holiness of our God! …
“And he cometh into the world that he may save all men if they will hearken unto his voice; for behold, he suffereth the pains of all men, yea, the pains of every living creature, both men, women, and children, who belong to the family of Adam.
“And he suffereth this that the resurrection might pass upon all men, that all might stand before him at the great and judgment day.
“And he commandeth all men that they must repent, and be baptized in his name, having perfect faith in the Holy One of Israel, or they cannot be saved in the kingdom of God.” (2 Ne. 9:4–9, 11–16, 18–23.)
On the other hand, those who will “repent and believe in his name, and be baptized in his name, and endure to the end” shall be saved. (2 Ne. 9:24.)"  (https://www.lds.org/ensign/1974/11/how-men-are-saved?lang=eng)
I know that this Church is true and that only through Him can we be saved, and I say that in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Managing Your Time Wisely.

School has started officially for me and I have already discovered that I am busy with a lot of things. However, I am not here to lecture you on my boring life so I'll just cut right to the chase. Whether you are busy or not, you usually seem to find some way to spend your time. It could be on homework, helping around the house, playing video games, spending countless hours on Facebook, whatever it is, you do many things in your everyday life. Now we must choose how to spend that extra time we have in the right way. When we have free time, that's when Satan jumps in and tries to influence us! I'm not saying that you have to read the Book of Mormon in your free time, (but that is a great idea!) but you need to fill your life with wholesome activities. We have been commanded to expand our abilities and develop our talents. Try something new. Get involved in things if you are not. If we are too busy to even think about Satan then we are winning the battle! We need to have a good balance in our lives between spiritual, physical, mental, and social activities. Elder Russell M. Ballard of the Quorum of the Twelve gives 8 steps to have a balanced life, they are as follows (can be found on http://www.lds.org/liahona/2012/09/keeping-your-life-in-balance?lang=eng):
1. Establish Priorities
2. Set Attainable Goals
3. Budget Wisely
4. Build Relationships
5. Study the Scriptures
6. Take Care of Yourself
7. Live the Gospel
8. Pray Often

I know that if you follow these 8 steps that you will feel at peace and that you'll be happy with the balance of your life. And I know that President Thomas S. Monson is our Prophet on the Earth today, and I say that in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

P.S. Sorry that was so short and poorly written! I will try and find more time in my day to write a better one on Saturday!

A Testimony of the Power of Prayer - Thanks to my Stupidity!

This past week, I randomly decided to change my phone password to a random number. I did not know at the time why to do it but I did. And for some reason, I did not write it down to get it memorized. I know, stupid of me right? Well the next morning I woke up and turned my phone on. It asked for a password, and I put in my previous code, forgetting that I had changed it the day before. When I realized of what situation I was in, I got pretty frustrated. All morning I was inputting different combinations, hoping that I would get lucky. Well around noon, I prayed, asking my Heavenly Father the numbers to my password. (Giving credit to my mom) And I had the distinct feeling that the first two numbers were 8-4, then 3, and then a couple numbers later I got in! (The last number was 9.) I was so glad to finally get into my phone and this experience has really strengthened my testimony on the power of prayer. Our Father in Heaven knows everything about our lives, even down to a little random phone code. And  I know that I can always turn to Him for comfort, hard situations, and answers to anything. I know that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the true church upon this Earth today. And I love my family and all of my friends and I cannot wait to spend eternity with them in the celestial kingdom. I love this Gospel and I will serve a full time mission. And I say that in the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, Amen.

Choose the Right, Sin, Repent, Repeat.

This is a talk that I gave in my church meeting today! This is the longer version. I had to cut part of it out in order to not speak over my given time. Enjoy! (P.S. Sorry about not so many posts, It will be fixed this week!)

Good morning brothers and sisters. It is my pleasure to be speaking to you today. I was asked to speak like everyone else does. You see them coming down the hall. You look at them. You see that they are looking right back at you. And then you know. There’s no way out. You run, but they catch you. It’s inevitable. When Brother Cutler asked me to speak to you this morning, I was delighted. And when I found out that I got to choose my topic, I was even happier. I have chosen to speak about the two topics of Agency and Repentance. These two very important principles of the Gospel work off of each other. Agency, according to Webster’s Dictionary, is the capacity, condition, or state of acting or of exerting power. Our definition of agency is a little different. Agency is the ability to choose right from wrong and to act for yourself. That definition is a little more personal and has more meaning to it.
We have always had the power to choose. We have never lost it, and never will. In 2 Nephi 2:27 we are given a choice: liberty and eternal life or captivity and death. Almost a month ago, I attended Youth Conference and the theme was “Choose You This Day” from the scripture Joshua 24:15. In the whole verse, it reads: And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” That last part to me is really important because it is a choice, a confident decision, to serve our Lord and Savior. However, we are not free to both make our initial choice and then also choose the consequence of that choice. Bad choices might bring short-lived pleasure, but in the long run, they will not bring true happiness. In the Book of Mormon, Nephi foresees the destruction of those that are unrighteous, and I would hope that none of us here are this deep in sin. And when these things have passed away a speedy destruction cometh unto my people; for, notwithstanding the pains of my soul, I have seen it; wherefore, I know that it shall come to pass; and they sell themselves for naught; for, for the reward of their pride and their foolishness they shall reap destruction; for because they yield unto the devil and choose works of darkness rather than light, therefore they must go down to hell (2 Nephi 26).  Having the consequences laid out for you makes the decision easier doesn’t it? Hmm…eternal life or hell? On this Earth, everyone has their difficulties. It’s the truth; life can sometimes be hard. But we can choose for ourselves to do the right things, to be happy, to uplift others, and provide service to those in need. We can choose to do that. And when we choose to do good things we will be blessed immensely. Additionally, our Heavenly Father has given us talents that we are commanded to develop. In True to the Faith, it states, “You are also responsible for developing the abilities and talents Heavenly Father has given you. You are accountable to Him for what you do with your abilities and how you use your time. Do not idle away your time. Be willing to work hard. Choose to do many things of your own free will.” We need to be like the man who received five talents and make five more. It will be great to hear Him say to us: “Well done, thou good and faithful servant. . .” (Matt. 25:21). In our daily lives though, there are constant temptations from Satan and peer pressure that can lead us into sin.
In Matthew 6:24, it says that “No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.” President Spencer W. Kimball talks of this scripture in his book, “The Miracle of Forgiveness”. He states, “Sin, then, is service to Satan.” We do not want to be known as Satan’s servants. Once we sin, we must repent quickly, because if we don’t, we may think that it is not required that we repent. And if we have that mindset, we will be committing those little sins in our everyday lives, not even thinking about it. And that will cause us to fall deeper and deeper in sin. This is Satan’s strategy. President Kimball tells a story in his book that I would like to share with you: “When I was a young boy I took care of a Jersey bull which became vicious and charged me several times. All I needed to do to halt his attack was to jerk the chain attached to his ring in his nose and he became docile and manageable. As he became less tractable, I added a long bamboo pole fastened to the ring in his nose. I now had him under total subjection, for I could hold him back or lead him forward. He was under my control. So does sin, as a ring in the nose, have the sinner under subjection. So is sin like handcuffs on the wrists, a ring in the nose, and slave bands around the neck.” Satan can get us that easily. His main purpose is to slow down the work of God. And we are his toughest competition ever. He is trying his hardest to tempt us. We were chosen to be on the earth at this time for a reason though; we can defeat Satan. We were held in reserve for this time when his influence would become almost unbearable. He is that very tempting little voice that says, “Oh this isn’t that big of a deal, there are people out there doing way worse things than me!” He is a professional at what he does. President Kimball continues, “the devil is decidedly a person. He is also clever and trained. With thousands of years of experience behind him he has become superbly efficient and increasingly determined.” He may have a lot of experience with what he does on a daily basis, but it is easy to avoid His temptations. On my bedroom wall, I have taped the following statement, “Return to an Environment where Spiritual Truths are Spoken.” I do not remember where I got this, but I love it so much because it is so true. If we are not in a righteous place, we cannot hear the influence of the Holy Ghost. He is our friend and will help us with whatever we need. If we are not in his earshot, it is like rejecting a friend that has always been there for you. For me, looking at it from that perspective, I feel a little guilty. Because I am not perfect person. However, through the Atonement of Jesus Christ, we can be made perfect one day.
In For the Strength of Youth it states, “Repentance is more than simply acknowledging wrongdoings. It is a change of mind and heart. It includes turning away from sin and turning to God for forgiveness.” That statement is so true, when we turn to our Heavenly Father for forgiveness, we are agreeing to never commit that sin again. Repentance is a key to this life. If we do not repent of our sins, we cannot live with our Heavenly Father in the celestial kingdom. Our daily goal needs to be to repent after we commit a sin. In Helaman 12:23 it says, “Therefore, blessed are they who will repent and hearken unto the voice of the Lord their God; for these are they that shall be saved.” It is plain and simple. Our Heavenly Father will never turn his back on us. He is here for us. However, if we do not repent, President Kimball, referring to King Benjamin’s words in Mosiah 2:38, tells us of what could happen, he warns: “This is the state of those who knowingly fail to live the commandments in this life. They will bring upon themselves their own hell.” King Benjamin’s words are as follows: Therefore if that man repenteth not, and remaineth and dieth an enemy to God, the demands of divine justice do awaken his immortal soul to a lively sense of his own guilt, which doth cause him to shrink from the presence of the Lord, and doth fill his breast with guilt, and pain, and anguish, which is like an unquenchable fire, whose flame ascendeth up forever and ever.” May we always repent, and turn to our Heavenly Father when we are going through the repentance process. A couple months ago, I taught a lesson in Priesthood on the topic of Christ-Centered Repentance. And in the lesson, it laid out 7 Steps to Full Repentance; I liken it to The GPS to get us back on the Strait and Narrow. Number one, We need to Recognize our sins. We cannot repent without knowing we are sinning. Those who have been baptized and confirmed, have the Gift of the Holy Ghost to help them choose the right and see what they have done wrong. Number two, We must feel sorrow for our sins. If we know we are sinning, and do not feel bad about what we have done, the full power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ cannot cleanse us. Number three, we need to have faith in the Atonement of Jesus Christ. In the Garden of Gethsemane, our elder brother, felt what we felt, He knows how it feels from getting a paper-cut, all the way to a terrible death. We need to believe that the Atonement can heal us. Because it is real and works in our everyday lives. Number four, we must confess our sins, to those we have wronged, and to our Heavenly Father. Admitting that we have sinned means that we are determined to repent, and want to get back on the Strait and Narrow. The fifth step is to abandon our sins. Once we have confessed our sins to our Father in Heaven, he will “remember them no more.” (D&C 58:42). Number six, We need to make restitution for our sins. To make restitution is to make amends or to restore something to its original state. Once we do this, we have been fully forgiven. The last step, is to Keep His Commandments and Endure to the End. We can use this GPS every day. It never runs out of battery. I would like to close with a quote from President Spencer W. Kimball, he says: “There is never a day in any man’s life when repentance is not essential to his well-being and eternal progress. . . Repentance is for every soul who has not yet reached perfection.” I know that this Church is true, and that if we let the Atonement work in our daily lives that we will be happy and I know that we have the power in us to stand up against evil and choose the right. And I know that the Book of Mormon is true and I know that My Redeemer lives and loves all of us so much. And I say that in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Media. Satan's Secret Weapon.

We live in a world where media everywhere is influencing us. The smallest thing affects us. From a short inappropriate commercial, to a funny joke or even an actor swearing in a movie. Satan jumped for joy when the internet was invented. He could now get to us without us even knowing it, before it's too late. Satan is trying to knock us off the path leading back to our Heavenly Father, and we just CANNOT let that happen. When those bad commercials and that swearing comes up, we need to have the moral courage to stand up. We have to be bigger than that. We need to walk away from it and return to an environment where spiritual truths are spoken. If we do not stand firm the first time, it will just become easier and easier to ignore it. Eventually, it will become "the usual" to hear those bad words and see pornography in movies. Brothers and Sisters, we cannot let that become a part of our lives.

Media can impact us for good though. We can share the Gospel with our friends, we can index names for temple work and prepare talks and lessons. There are many more ways to use the internet positively. We just need to find them, and stick with them.

In this world, there are many people who have become addicted to media. It seems that some people I know, are always doing something that involves technology, whether it be texting, watching television, surfing the internet, or reading a magazine. The truth is, is that media is all around us. We cannot escape it. We use it every day of our lives. We cannot become addicted to it. If we do, we lose precious memories with families, friends and others. We are sending the message that media is more important to us then eating together as a family, or spending time with our siblings. You will regret not having those memories later in life!

In this Mormon Youth video, President Henry B. Eyring says everything for me. I hope that you will watch it and feel the Spirit as I did. And then, be willing to stand against bad media, and use media for good! I know that this Church is true, and that through this Gospel we can be happy and that families can be together forever. And I say that in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Yay for School?

Hello everyone! Since school is starting up soon, I thought that I would do one on Education. I know that no one really enjoys school, but we need it to be able to get a job later in life and support our families. From For the Strength of Youth, it states, "Education is an important part of Heavenly Father's plan to help you become more like Him. . ." If it is that important to our Heavenly Father, it should be important to us. However, we should not just be educating ourselves in history, mathematics, and sciences. We need to be nourishing our body by feasting upon the words of Christ everyday. The more we come to learn of our Heavenly Father, the closer we are to Him. And we will feel his love even more. In Doctrine and Covenants 88:118 it states: "Seek learning, even by study and also by faith"  We need to be continually seeking opportunities everyday to learn. Those who are of age need to be attending seminary everyday. President Thomas S. Monson says this about seminary, "Seminary will help you understand and rely on the teachings of the Atonement of Jesus Christ. You will feel the spirit of the Lord as you learn to love the scriptures. You will prepare yourselves for the temple and for missionary service." Now if the prophet has commanded us to learn, and our Heavenly Father, we should listen. Because we take all of the knowledge that we gain in this Earth-life with us into the eternities. Keep learning. Do not stop. And I know that all will be well. I know that My Redeemer Lives and is looking out for us. We must come unto Him. And I say that in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Choose Liberty and Eternal Life

It sounds like an awesome choice! It's the correct choice. I think everyone would want to live forever and be free. In 2 Nephi 2:27 it gives you a choice: ". . .they are free to echoose fliberty and eternal glife, through the great Mediator of all men, or to choose captivity and death, according to the captivity and power of the devil. . ." Lehi lays it right in front of us. It comes down to those two choices. What you do in your daily life tells your Heavenly Father what you really want. If your decisions are leaning towards captivity and death, you must change that. Lucifer is so good at what he does. He's been doing this for thousands of years. He can lure you in with small little things that you do not do anything about. Here's an example: On Facebook this morning, I logged on, and all of these pornographic ads came up. I thought that they were only on the News feed page, but as I was checking my notifications and things, they did not go away! So, if these images are not gone in a week, I am deleting my Facebook account. I do not have time for Satan's little tricks. All you have to do is realize what he is doing before it is too late and you can laugh it him. "Ha. You thought you could get me. Nice try bro." You can show him up! Choose Christ. He is the way, the light, and the life. He wants us to reach our full potential on this Earth, and to do so, we cannot let Satan influence our lives. Choose Liberty and Eternal Life. You'll be happy you did later.

"We will always have the right to choose"

Become a Witness.

Now, I would hope that all of us have finally gotten over Lebron leaving Cleveland. I mean, playing basketball is his job! He was doing the right thing, trying to get a championship. Now, the way he left, totally not cool. I agree with that. But he is the best player to ever be in the NBA since MJ. So, Ohioans, get over it. We were "witnesses" in Cleveland, and I would hope that everyone in the world, has and will continue to be, a witness for Christ. In Mosiah 18:9 it reads: "Yea, and are willing. . .to stand as witnesses of God at all times and in all things, and in all places that ye may be in, even until death, that ye may be redeemed of God. . ." In this crazy world of constant cussing, pornography, and drugs, it is hard to stand up against those things. Peer pressure is a big factor in why we sometimes do not stand as a witness for Christ. We all want to fit in. Well, you just cannot do that anymore. It is the latter days! You need to stand out among your peers. Be firm in your beliefs. Let them know your standards. And do not be shaken by the temptations of the adversary. He is weak. We are strong. The Lord is always with us. We need to exercise our agency wisely. The bad choices, are usually the easier ones to make. The path that leads back to our Heavenly Father is tough. But we cannot feel ashamed for partaking of the fruit of the Tree of Life. Ignore the constant mocking and pointing of fingers. You are making the right choices. Do not fall away from the Church because if you do, I know that life will get tougher. And no one wants that. Living in the Church is tough enough, living without it, to me, is impossible. The Church brings so much joy into my life. So study your scriptures daily, pray to your Heavenly Father, keep His commandments, and enjoy life! That's the purpose of living isn't it? "Men are, that they might have joy."(2 Nephi 2:25) I know that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the only true church upon the earth today, I know that Joseph Smith restored it upon this earth. And I know that the Book of Mormon is true. And I know with every fiber in my being that Christ lives and loves us all. And I say that in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

BE A WITNESS OF CHRIST
"Live so that others will want to know Christ because they know you."

Missions..... :)

Well, my brother is leaving for the Missionary Training Center tomorrow. I have already had one brother go through and I am happy to see that my older brother is following in his footsteps! He will be serving in the Nevada Las Vegas Mission. I can't wait for him to get out on his mission. I will miss him. But he is going out to do the Lord's work. And that matters more. I cannot wait to serve my mission. I look forward to it and I am preparing for it everyday of my life. I encourage all the men to go all missions. And the women who feel they should go should. I have faith and heard from my oldest brother that it changes you as a person and is the best two years for your life. And to do prepare for such a great experience, we must be reading our scriptures everyday. We need to establish a great connection with ourselves and Heavenly Father. I know that if we develop these patterns into our daily lives that we will be blessed and always have the Spirit to be with us. And I say that in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

They are Ten Commandments. Not Ten Suggestions.

I had my first in-car experience today, and I did okay with the driving, but my instructor's language was above uncool. I wanted to stop the car and kick him out. So it made me think. There are commandments that are meant to be followed that were given to us from God. One of them is not taking his name in vain. But that's not the only one that we should follow. So follow all of them! And you will be happy and blessed.
